Background

My motivation in this particular field of Community Based Tourism (CBT) is based on the belief that I can contribute to the empowerment and capacity building of economically poor people. The combination of my immense experience as (a field archaeologist) safeguarder and protector of cultural heritage in a number of African countries and my qualifications as a communication trainer provides me with the necessary means to respond to the specific issues raised in relation to guides in CBT.
In this context I developed the training concept “Fitting into the shoe” which consists of tailor made training modules building on the given resources that are present in each person. This strengthens esteem for the intangible heritage and leads to satisfied tourists, who, supplied with knowledge well beyond that which they may have gleaned from a travel guidebook, will recommend the place and the well-guided tour they have experienced.
